The 8,316-acre refuge includes nine miles of hiking trails that wind through a variety of habitats that include marshes, uplands, and forested wetlands. It is regarded as one of the premier bird watching spots in the Midwest. Restrooms, visitors' center, fishing, picnic tables, x-country skiing, hunting, handicap accessible, and seven miles of pressed gavel trails available.
