LAKE ERIE SHORES & ISLANDS, OHIO, January 7, 2016 --- Here in Ohio’s Lake Erie Shores & Islands, we are fortunate to be able to promote a wide variety of activities to encourage travelers to choose us as a destination. From the roller coaster capital of the world to the country’s best birdwatching, the opportunities are diverse. Our responsibility is to market the region to potential visitors through regional advertising campaigns, public relations efforts, convention and group sales, and online. Each year we are thrilled to have new and exciting attractions and events to promote. Here are just a few things on our radar for 2016:
Cedar Point Unleashes Valravn
The world’s tallest, fastest, and longest dive coaster debuts in May. Valravn, named after a regal, swooping bird, will become the premier attraction’s 18th coaster. Riders will be able to experience a 214-ft, completely vertical free-fall, speeds up to 75 mph, and three inversions – the most of any dive coaster in the world. The steel behemoth will shatter 10 world records when the park opens.
Lake Erie Love Light Beer
Lake Erie Love Light is a craft beer from the masterminds at the Catawba Island Brewing Co. The family-owned craft microbrewery is helping to preserve our Great Lake by donating a portion of the proceeds from every keg sold to the Lake Erie Improvement Association. Lake Erie Love Light is on tap now at the brewery tasting room and at several local establishments.
Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Library & Museums at Spiegel Grove Centennial
The nation's first presidential library is celebrating its 100th birthday this year. A new exhibit, "100 Moments: A Century of the Nation's First Presidential Library," tells the story of 19th President Hayes and will be unveiled with a grand centennial celebration Memorial Day weekend.
Fresh Lodging Options
It’s always exciting to be able to offer additional overnight opportunities to guests. This year we welcome the opening of the nine-room boutique Hotel Kilbourne to downtown Sandusky, along with the grand opening of a brand-new Holiday Inn Express & Suites at the Cedar Point Causeway.
Erie Social Shuffleboard Club & Bar
Ohio’s first indoor shuffleboard club recently opened on the Marblehead peninsula. It features six regulation-size shuffleboard courts with raised viewing platforms available for year-round playing, as well as a deli and bar. The Erie Social offers a fun and unique social destination.
Downtown Sandusky Continues its Renaissance
Downtown continues to flourish with the aforementioned hotel, fantastic shows at the Sandusky State Theatre, boutique shopping, first-class dining, and these coming attractions. First, The Leaking Boot restaurant will begin operations while Ferndock Brewing continues construction next door. Its commercial brewery will be completed by the end of 2016; in the meantime Ferndock brews can be sampled at the restaurant. Vogontz Bike Share is joining the community in the spring. Bright orange bikes will be available to rent for leisure cruising or running errands. They will be offered in several spots around town and users can download an app to track each bike’s whereabouts and grab a ride. A second downtown brewery, Amusement Ales Brewing with its nod to the fun tourism of the area, should open by fall.
Put-in-Bay Boat Tours
See the Lake Erie islands and relax as a licensed charter captain takes you around to sites you can only see from the water. Sit back in luxury and take in the history and beauty of the islands. Running out of South Bass Island State Park, Put-in-Bay Boat Tours are perfect for groups of four-six for short or long trips.
With so many exciting developments on-tap, Lake Erie Shores & Islands is looking forward to another successful year of promoting travel and tourism in our destination. For more new and noteworthy attractions, visit www.SHORESandISLANDS.com.
