Wind Down Summer with These Lake Erie Shores & Islands Festivals & Events

August 14, 2019

Even with days getting shorter, nights getting cooler, and school starting soon, there’s no better time to visit Ohio’s Lake Erie Shores & Islands. The warm weather is proof that summer isn’t over yet. There are several weeks and weekends left before the season ends to escape to the coast.

Late summer is an ideal time to visit Cedar Point. Open daily through Labor Day, September 2, crowds are lighter and wait times are shorter for some of the park’s most popular rides like Steel Vengeance, Valravn, and Millennium Force.

Contrary to popular belief, the islands are still open as well and there are also a lot of events happening. Kelleys Island, Put-in-Bay, and Middle Bass Island businesses are eager to welcome late season guests. If you’re looking for a quiet island getaway, even for a day trip, a mid-week visit is perfect. You’ll encounter plenty of golf cart and bicycle rentals available to tour these lovely island destinations. Be sure to check out the Put-in-Bay Foodie Trail and eat your way through some of the region’s best restaurants.

Other popular area attractions such as African Safari Wildlife Park, Liberty Aviation Museum, and Marblehead Lighthouse are fantastic late-summer visits as well. There are two full weeks left in Lakeside Chautauqua’s programming season. Enjoy a show, take a class, or attend a lecture to enrich your mind, body, and spirit.

Late summer getaways also include affordable lodging options for overnight getaways, along with plenty of campsites for those who enjoy the great outdoors and a crackling summer evening fire. Gather the family, grab your crew, or get away with your sweetie, and check out some of these events while you’re here.
