Middle Bass Island, Ohio is the ultimate in serenity. Escape from the everyday at this beautiful Lake Erie island, which lies just one-and-a-half miles south of the U.S. and Canadian international boundary. Originally called Isle des Fleur or Island of Flowers by early French explorers, Middle Bass is still known for its beautiful natural flora. Nowhere is this more evident than the Kuehnle Wildlife Area and Peterson’s Woods, both recognized for their marshes, native plants, and wildlife viewing. Explore wetlands, woodlands, natural beaches, and glacial grooves on the island. Easily accessible by boat, Middle Bass Island State Park boasts a 190-slip marina with a modern harbor master building which includes shower facilities and a camp store. The state park offers a primitive campground, miniature golf course, and the historic, castle-like Lonz Winery structure, currently under renovation for a future public/private venture. Miller Ferries services Middle Bass Island for vehicle and passenger transportation from the mainland. Bicycle and golf cart rentals are available for visitors to tour the island’s back roads. Vacation cottages and cabins are offered, as well as a few restaurants presenting live entertainment. Middle Bass Island hosts a number of special events throughout the year.
