Kevin Farley, brother of the late Chris Farley, has joined the line-up for Thursday night! It all kicks off with the Greater Sandusky Partnership’s weekly Party at the Pier event at Jackson Street Pier on August 7th. The party at the pier features food trucks with free live entertainment at an open-air venue; please bring blankets or chairs to sit on to enjoy the entertainment. Located right on the pier, Big Tom’s Market: Brake Pads and More will be open, selling hand-crafted goods, merchandise, and memorabilia. A Tommy Boy look-alike contest will start the entertainment portion of the evening, hosted by Kevin Farley. Loads of “Tommy Callahan’s,” “Richard’s,” and other movie character look-alikes are expected. Following the contest, The Menus, a popular Ohio rock band playing high energy covers, will take the stage, sponsored by Shores & Islands Ohio. Immediately following the concert, Farley will take the stage again for a hilarious comedy set leading up to the first outdoor screening of the film.
On Friday, August 8th, the party continues with a Tommy Boy Fest Movie Classics Car Show, sponsored by O’Reilly Auto Parts, featuring such classic television and movie vehicle reproductions as the “Blues Brothers,” “Jurassic Park,” “Ghostbusters,” and “Back to the Future.” Of course, the 1967 Plymouth Belvedere II GTX convertible, used in the movie by Tommy and Richard to traverse the Midwest, will be a part of the display thanks to the generosity of the film’s director, Peter Segal!
Big Tom’s Market will once again be open at the Jackson Street Pier, where there will also be a double-feature film screening with “50 First Dates” and “Tommy Boy.” In between the films, all “Tommy’s” and “Richard’s” from the area and in attendance are invited for a group photo opportunity. How many Tommy’s can we get?
Saturday, August 9th will begin with a couple of events. First, feed your inner Tommy at the Tommy Want Wingy Throwdown, benefiting Ability works, Inc. The fun continues with the Fat Guy in a Little Race 0.5K – picture Tommy running to catch the school bus at the beginning of the film. Entries will be limited, and participants will receive a medal and Fat Guy in a Little Race t-shirt! Following the run, Big Tom’s Market will reopen at the Jackson Street Pier with even more vendors located outdoors, along with entertainment from My So Called Band, playing 90’s covers and sponsored by Vacationland Federal Credit Union. Next, enjoy Tommy Boy Trivia with Mary Beth White. The party rocks on with Dave Paulson & the Holy Schnikes presenting “Sandusky, Ohio – A Tommy Boy-inspired Rock Album.”
Coinciding with Tommy Boy Fest, The Small City Taphouse/CLAG Brewing festival will take place on Saturday adjacent to Tommy Boy Fest on beautiful Columbus Avenue on Saturday. The beer festival will feature live music, a street party, beer releases, and more. A previous release included “Fat Guy in a Little Can” Double IPA, known for its tropical fruit flavors.
The weekend’s events will conclude with a Q&A session with Tommy Boy film director Peter Segal on the main stage, followed by one final screening of the film.
Please note, the Jackson Street Pier is a natural venue with limited seating. For all events taking place there, please plan to bring a blanket or chairs to enjoy the festivities. Parking is available a numerous public lots withing walking distance to downtown and the pier.
Throughout the weekend, immerse yourself in the Sandusky community through a 90’s-themed community bike ride (Thursday evening), 90’s-themed evening party cruise on the Goodtime I (Friday evening), themed menus at local eateries (such as the Tommy Want Wingy pizza at Archie’s Pizza), photo-opportunities, shopping, scavenger hunt, and local sightseeing tours, such as with Sandusky Pedal Co.
