Step Back in Time

Step back through the years as America celebrates its 250th anniversary. This Shores & Islands Ohio itinerary treats your guests to a mix of local and international history plus a couple of sweet stops.

Arrival: Begin your visit with a stop in charming Milan, Ohio. Edison Birthplace Museum, the early boyhood home of Thomas Edison, and The Milan Museum, with exhibits on inventions and glass pieces, work together to welcome larger groups.

Lunch: Replenish your energy while dining at Tin Goose Diner. This 1951 diner was purchased, restored, and moved to Liberty Aviation Museum in 2012. Currently it operates as a functional museum exhibit serving up diner classics with proceeds supporting the museum.

Afternoon: After a tasty lunch, explore the rest of Liberty Aviation Museum with a guided tour. See operational, historical aircraft and vehicles including Georgie's Gal, (a WWII B-25 Mitchell Bomber), a U.S. Navy WWII TBM Avenger, WWII PT-boat, along with the renovation of a 1929 Ford Tri-Motor.

Time to get outdoors at this next stop. Marblehead Lighthouse State Park is the perfect location to enjoy views of Lake Erie with sight lines to the islands and Cedar Point. As the oldest, continuously operating lighthouse on the Great Lakes, tours of the lighthouse are available from Memorial Day to Labor Day in the afternoon.

Dinner: Spend the rest of your evening at Lakeside Chautauqua. For over 150 years, this historic community sits along the shores of Lake Erie with beautiful views of the water. Here guests can shop ‘til they drop, participate in recreational activities such as miniature golf or shuffleboard, or enjoy unique educational or entertaining programming.

NTTW Museum Monday

Morning: Venture to Sandusky for today’s fun. Begin at the Merry-Go-Round Museum where you can take a carousel ride on a 1939 historic carousel, hear the happiest music on earth, and see over 200 carousel figures ranging in dates from 1865-1935. Located inside the museum is the Downtown Sandusky Cedar Point Historical Museum with items ranging from over the last 150 years. The display, both physical and audio-visual in nature, is sure to rekindle fond memories, ignite loving emotions, and educate as to the rich heritage of the Cedar Point peninsula.

Make your way to the Maritime Museum of Sandusky to dive into the maritime history of the Sandusky Bay area. Have a boat load of fun learning about ice harvesting, shipwrecks, boat building, wetlands, Sandusky's Underground Railroad history, passenger boats, and more.

Lunch: Visit Wake Up and Waffle for lunch. This brunchery in Sandusky serves hardy classic liege waffles made into sandwiches, and eggs benedicts from savory to sweet.

Make one final stop at Ohio’s oldest dairy for dessert. Toft Dairy Ice Cream Parlor features over 45 delicious hard-dipped flavors along with milkshakes, specialty sundaes, and more!
