Three Day Trip Sample Itinerary
In need of a weekend vacation? Maybe a mid-week getaway? Shores & Islands Ohio is here for you! This trip takes you all across the region, hitting a mixture of the well-known spots and the hidden treasures.
Morning: Start your trip with a visit to the Merry-Go-Round Museum or the Maritime Museum of Sandusky. Or, if time permits, do both as the museums are only a couple of minutes apart in downtown Sandusky.
Lunch: Stop by Sandusky Bay Pancake House for lunch and choose from a wide selection of items including egg dishes, pancakes, waffles, crepes, sandwiches, burgers, salads, and more.
Afternoon: Prepare for a different kind of culinary experience at The Chef’s Garden. Passionate about regenerative farming, the Jones family and the farm team are dedicated to providing the community with healthy, Earth-friendly vegetables. The tour of the farm will be sure to engage all your senses!
After time on the farm, make your way to Huron’s waterfront. See the Huron Lighthouse and Fishing Pier and take in views of Lake Erie. On a clear day, you can see across to Cedar Point.
Dinner: Depending on your group, enjoy dinner while still in Huron as there are a couple of restaurants along the water where you can watch boats coming in and out.
Evening: Find your way to downtown Sandusky’s Jackson Street Pier to keep the good times going. Board the Goodtime I Lake Erie Island Cruises to take part in one of their evening cruises, or participate in one of the many events held at the Pier.
Morning: Rise and shine! It’s time to visit the small town of Vermilion. See the Vermilion Lighthouse at Main Street Beach & Park, stroll through downtown and grab a cup of coffee or souvenirs from one of the many shops in the area. Take a tour of the Vermilion History Museum or climb aboard the Mystic Belle and see the lagoons.
Lunch: When your group is ready to eat, visit Quaker Steak & Lube found along the Vermilion River.
Afternoon/Evening: Spend the rest of the day tasting some of the area’s local wines paired with small plates. Paper Moon Vineyards is located outside of downtown Vermilion while Quarry Hill Winery is in Berlin Heights. During your time at Quarry Hill Winery be sure to consider visiting Quarry Hill Orchards as well. Depending on the time of year, your group can take a tractor-pulled wagon ride, pick fruit, and walk through the market barn to find fresh produce and local artisan goods. Make one last winery stop in Sandusky at Firelands Winery, one of Ohio’s oldest wineries.
End the night with a sweet treat - an ice cream from Toft Dairy Ice Cream Parlor, the oldest dairy in Ohio. The ice cream parlor on Venice Rd. in Sandusky has over fifty flavors to choose from!
End your getaway with a full day at A Place Like No Other™. Cedar Point offers fun for everyone with 68 rides including the all-new Siren’s Curse, special festivals and events, dynamic entertainment, and delicious dining options. When you’re ready to cool off, head to Cedar Point Shores Waterpark or Cedar Point Beach.
