Described as a "weekend on wheels," this unique summer event invites participants to experience Kelleys Island in an entirely new way. Whether you ride a skateboard, longboard, bicycle, inline skates, or a personal electric vehicle, you'll spend three unforgettable days exploring one of Lake Erie's favorite island destinations while making new friends along the way.
Taking place July 10-12, 2026, the event welcomes everyone from seasoned riders to beginners who have just picked up their first board. It's less about competition and more about discovering the island, embracing the outdoors, and becoming part of a passionate community.
The weekend begins on Friday, July 10th with a chance to get acquainted with Kelleys Island. Participants cruise scenic roads, explore parks, visit local businesses, discover favorite island hangouts, and meet fellow adventurers before race day.
Then comes Saturday's signature Clue Hunt Race.
Rather than simply racing from start to finish, participants are divided into groups and sent to different corners of the island, solving clue after clue while navigating Kelleys Island. Success requires strategy, teamwork, and a little creativity, not just speed. The first competitor to solve the final clue earns the coveted title of Island Champion before celebrating in unforgettable fashion by firing the ceremonial cannon overlooking West Bay at sunset.
Sunday keeps the adventure going with one final group hangout before everyone boards the ferry back to the mainland, wrapping up a weekend filled with new friendships and lasting memories.
Created by Cleveland-area downhill skateboarder Tim Cernanec, the Kelleys Island Amazing Race reflects the welcoming culture of Ohio's skateboarding and longboarding community. Tim's goal isn't simply to host a race, it's to create an event where people can connect through a shared love of riding - whether they're lifelong athletes, casual riders, or someone looking to meet others who enjoy the sport.
