Schoepfle Garden, part of Lorain County Metro Parks, offers 20 acres of walkable terrain holding a diverse collection that includes modern roses, iris, rhododendrons, day lilies, topiary, seasonal beds, and unique tree and perennial specimens. A half-mile paved trail encircles the formal gardens and hosts tram rides on Thursday mornings and Sunday afternoons Apr-Oct. There are more than two miles of wooded trails in over 40 acres of woods and the Vermilion River Valley for hiking as well. The Children’s Garden provides a space for young children to explore and play in a musically-themed area that also includes a restored carousel with rides on Wednesdays and weekend afternoons May-Sept. The visitor center offers restrooms, a reservable meeting space, and picnic areas that are open year-round.
