As you plan for your trip, take this guide along and remember that the byway is about time- landscapes that have been changing since the glaciers, human evidence throughout the ages, and cultural experiences that immerse you in the region and it’s past. Each town along the byway has character unto itself, so relax and take time to journey along our treasured coast.
The Lake Erie Coastal Trail spans a route of 293 miles, which follows the coast of Lake Erie, traveling from Toledo east to the Pennsylvania border. The trail is split into three sections: the Northwest including Lucas, Ottawa, Erie, and Lorain counties, and the Lake Erie Islands; the Northcentral encompasses Cuyahoga and Lorain counties; and the Northeast region encompassing Ashtabula and Lake counties. Along the route you will notice that our history, culture, and natural areas blend together making the Coastal Trail a distinctive journey.
